#48: A Mother’s Answered Prayer
A Mother’s Day I won’t forget.
Mother’s Day two years ago. Going into a 7-11, I noticed a van that was loaded with stuff. Women sitting at the wheel and three small kids playing in the back. When I pulled out of the lot, I couldn’t help but wonder about her. By the time I got to the next major intersection, I felt this need to go back. Because of something that happened several years ago where I knew God was putting me where I needed to be and I ignored him, I now make sure I follow my instinct, which to me is the Spirit of God.
Praying that she was still there, I was happy to see the van. I went into the store, pulled $40 out of the ATM and went to her open window. I handed her the money and told her to go have a great Mother’s Day breakfast with her kids. She looked at me and said she couldn’t. I insisted. She reached down and turned the ignition and showed me that she was out of gas.
She went on to explain that she was sitting there praying for help in that she had no money for gas and that she and her kids had just left the overnight shelter but didn’t have enough gas to get to the next shelter.
